Fuoss History

Four generations of our family have been raising black Angus. My grandfather, Henry Fuoss, started cross breeding his Hereford cows with Angus bulls in 1949. He died before he got to see the first calves born, but my dad Orville continued to use Angus bulls and built up a commercial Angus herd. Dave and his son Mike now operate the ranch and the fifth generation (Mike's three boys) is ready to become part of the operation.

In 2007 we had the opportunity to purchase the top 100 pairs from the Leo Howard herd. These cows have been a big building block in the expansion of both our numbers and the genetic advancement of our registered cow herd. The AI sires that influence our mature cow herd include Hoff Great Western SC, SAF 598 Bando 5175, TC Freedom, Sitz Alliance 6595. More recent AI sires include SAV Final Answer, SAV Net Worth, Mogck Sure Shot, Sitz Upward, Mogck Bullseye and Connealy Impression.

We started selling a few registered Angus bulls in Philip at the all breed bull sale and for the next 10 years we held our annual sale at the Presho Livestock Auction. In 2011 we made the decision to host our own production sale on the ranch. We started from scratch and erected a Cleary building which serves as the sale barn and a day-to-day working facility on the ranch.

We also farm and started no-tilling in 1988. We grow corn, sunflowers, milo, winter wheat, spring wheat and field peas. We raise all our own feed and graze the stubble fields once crops are harvested.

We calve our heifers in February and the main cow herd in March and April. We also started a fall herd so we can offer 18 month old bulls in our sale. Every spring we look forward to seeing new calves.

Our annual bull sale is the first Thursday in March. Our sale will include 19 sons from full brothers SAV Renown 3439 and SAV Resource 1441. Other ai sires are RB Tour of Duty 613, Connealy Final Product, Connealy Earnan 076E, Connealy Comrade 1385 and PA Power Tool 9108. The herd sires include LT Celtic (Connealy Earnan son that was the high seller at Linskov Thiel sale) and Varilek Confidence 3004-0 (calving ease sire we've used 2 years on our heifers).
